José Ferreira Franco (18 November 1934 in Recife – 25 July 2009), nicknamed ''Zequinha'', was a Brazilian association footballer who played as a midfielder. Playing career Club During his club career he played for Auto Esporte-PB in 1954, Santa Cruz-PE from 1954 to 1958. He then went to São Paulo club Palmeiras from 1958 to 1965. After this he went to rivals Fluminense for the 1965 season before returning to Palmeiras playing there until 1968. After leaving Palmeiras, Zequinha went to Curitiba side Atlético-PR for whom he played for from 1968 until 1970. His last season in Brazil came with Náutico in 1970. International He earned 16 caps and scored 2 goals for the Brazil national football team between 1960 and 1965. And he was also a part of the 1962 FIFA World Cup winning squad, although he did not play any matches during the tournament. The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as the Copa Libertadores de América ( pt, Copa Libertadores da América), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps.
